Experimental "Game" Review - Le Morte D'Arthur

I dedicated the time I had left to finishing my project, as well as the experimental game and the "Dragon Speech" by Chris Crawford. I definitely found this experimental approach to video games interesting. I thought the characters and their interactions were very interesting, as well as the way they each thought. For instance, Arthur applying his knowledge of the Roman empire to the present was definitely unexpected, but it helped to define his character in an intriguing way. It was extremely interesting to listen to Chris Crawford's Dragon Speech and learn about his philosophies on education and creation. I thought he was a very entertaining and inspiring speaker with his tones and ideas. One of his ideas that stuck closest to me was "sacrificing effectiveness for efficiency".

Week 10 - Wednesday

So far, the recreation of the two shots is going well. Found some decent particle effects to make the transformation feel more real. However, I definitely need to do some extra work in After Effects to improve the visuals.

Week 9 - Friday

I ultimately had to scrap those shots I mentioned in the last post. Those shots were for the scene where one of the Datascouts gains their human eyesight and the scene where the other Datascout (the one you don't choose to play as) looks at the sunset. I will have to start from scratch on those parts and finish it all quickly to begin editing.

Week 9 - Tuesday

I have been trying to put as much information into the cinematic as possible, but I have been having some trouble. I definitely have to cut down some of the shots I had in mind to effectively "sell my trailer". I did find some great music to go with the cinematic in the meantime.

Week 8 - Thursday

I have been making great progress on my project. I have placed cameras in some spaces, and began testing the shots to see what camera angles feel effective. I took the time later to do a brief search in the marketplace for more suitable assets for my environment. I thought I found a compatible Moon Base package that could help me portray the first shots in my cinematic. Unfortunately, after downloading it, I discovered that it was not compatible with Unreal Engine 5.3. I am very happy that I found more lush jungle environment assets for free in the marketplace, which gives me more options for what I can put in my cinematic when I am finished with the bare bones of the project.

Week 8 - Tuesday

Today, I spoke with my professor about how to start my trailer and how I can effectively tell as much as possible within a short time. After that, I have been browsing the marketplace in the Epic Game Launcher that could help me with my cinematic, but there has been no success in finding suitable assets so far. I definitely feel better about piecing together my sequences after our chat during his course hours, and I am excited to craft things from here.

Week 8 - Monday

So far, it has been very easy to plot out how the scenes will look in my cinematic. I understand that length does not matter and that the quality of my animation is the most important factor. I have found a multitude of resources for my ideal landscape—a spaceship package and more Megascans props—that can help me portray my game easier. My biggest struggle so far has been figuring out how I should place things in the cinematic. I will have to ask my professor tomorrow for more advice on keeping the scope of my huge story as small as possible.
